University of Newcastle Visit to FK-KMK UGM

 

FK-KMK UGM. Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK) UGM received a visit from the University of Newcastle on Tuesday (27/6) at the Student Center on the 2nd floor of FK-KMK UGM.

dr. Nur Arfian, Ph.D from the Department of Anatomy FK-KMK UGM and dr. Gunadi, Ph.D, Sp.BA from the Department of Surgery FK-KMK UGM was present as a speaker for the material during this Biomedical Research Study visit. dr. Arfi gave a presentation about the Biomedical Science Masters Study Program. “Biomedical science can be taken as advanced education from many fields of science including biology, medicine, dentistry, nutrition and health, nursing, pharmacy, and physiotherapy,” dr. Arfi explained. The material that will be presented in the first semester of this study program includes human biology, genetics, cell biology, immunology, lab techniques, statistics, and research methodology.

dr. Gunadi gave a presentation entitled “Beyond Genomics: Are We Ready for the Era of Precision Medicine?”. He explained that currently precision medicine has begun to be used in several countries. The readiness of each country depends on the human and technological resources in that country. “One of the most common obstacles encountered is the price of treatment which is quite expensive, so it cannot reach all groups,” he explained.

Associate Professor David Newby from the University of Newcastle was present to give a brief explanation about the university where he teaches. He admitted that he was looking forward to discussions and collaboration with FK-KMK UGM. “We hope that the students who are present today can gain a lot of useful knowledge from the discussions that have been held,” he added.
