FK-KMK UGM. dr. Hanggoro Tri Rinonce, Ph.D., Sp.PA(K) became one of Indonesia’s representatives that presented a rare case report in The International Academy of Pathology (IAP), 13 – 15 October 2022 in International Convention Centre, Sydney Australia.
From thousands anatomical pathology specialists that registered in this forum, 3 of them are from Indonesia, dr. Hanggoro became the chosen one to do oral presentation with “A Rare Case of Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumour of the Prostate” topic.
Rare type of tumour became a diagnostic problem that triggered dr. Hanggoro brought this topic in his oral presentation. “This tumour is a rare case and has become a diagnostic problem because it’s rare and I have never seen it in the literature, so it is difficult to make a diagnosis,” dr. Hanggoro said.
Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumour (GIST) is a rare disease that occured only with 15 – 20 cases in the world, there is no published case found in Indonesia. GIST is one of rare tumour found in the digestive system that occurs in men over the age of 50 years. Some factors influencing GIST are age, gender, and genetics.
IAP is held once in 2 years that is attended by doctors of anatomical pathology specialists from all around the world. IAP 2022 brought “Bridge to a Cure” for this year’s theme and focused on application of theory and findings to the specialty of pathology. IAP is the largest professional body of Pathologists worldwide and the 2022 World Congress in Sydney will be one of the largest exchanges of educational advancements in the world. A forum for presenting and discussing progress in pathology process understanding, also presenting and critical evaluating in scientific, technology, and methodologies progress.
