FK-KMK UGM. The Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FK-KMK UGM) welcomed the arrival of international students under the Short Visit Program for United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) Students on Tuesday (22/9) at Room 2.5 A.B, Tahir Building. The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) delegation came directly to the FK-KMK UGM campus to take part in a series of activities designed to introduce them to the faculty’s education, research, and community service ecosystem.
The arrival of the 15 UAEU students was accompanied by Dr. Moath Bataineh, Associate Professor, and Ms. Salma Alhebshi, an instructor from the Department of Nutrition and Health, who joined the UAEU delegation throughout the visit. Their presence formed part of a broader effort to strengthen cross-continental ties in health education and research between the two institutions, and marked the beginning of the welcoming program that FK-KMK UGM had prepared to receive them.
The event opened with a warm welcome from the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of FK-KMK UGM, dr. Ahmad Hamim Sadewa, Ph.D. In his remarks, dr. Hamim expressed hope that the visit would mark the beginning of a sustained collaboration. “We really hope that we can see you again and discuss what we can do in the future about education, research, and community services. I think short visits from students are very important. And of course, we hope it will be followed by other activities,” he said.
A similar hope was echoed by Dr. Moath Bataineh on behalf of UAEU. He conveyed his enthusiasm for exploring more concrete forms of cooperation following the visit, “we hope to have a very fruitful collaboration that might improve your research, our teaching in the future,” he said.
The UAEU students were then invited to explore the Museum of Biopaleoanthropology and Anatomy at FK-KMK UGM during a faculty tour guided by AMSA students. Through the museum’s collections, the delegation gained insight into the development of anatomical and biopaleoanthropological studies, which form an essential part of the medical curriculum at UGM.
The visit concluded with an equally engaging activity, a workshop held at the Laboratory of the Department of Health Nutrition, facilitated by Dr. Artnice Mega Fathima, S.Si., M.Eng. During this session, the UAEU students not only learned about nutrition science practices applied at FK-KMK UGM, but also took part in hands-on practice making tumpeng nasi kuning and kolak, two traditional Indonesian dishes that also introduced them to the nutritional content and value behind these dishes. The workshop was then followed by a networking session with the FK-KMK UGM academic community.
This short visit underscores FK-KMK UGM’s commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 on Quality Education and Goal 17 on Partnerships for the Goals. Through this kind of cross-border knowledge exchange, FK-KMK UGM continues to strengthen its position as a health education institution open to global collaboration, while opening the door to broader research and educational partnerships in the future.
