FK-KMK UGM. FK-KMK UGM once again pursued efforts to strengthen its global medical education network through a collaboration that could open the door for cross-border knowledge and student exchange. This was reflected in the Courtesy Visit and Discussion held together with Umeå University at the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK) Universitas Gadjah Mada on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
FK-KMK UGM welcomed a courtesy visit from Julia Schröders, PhD, who attended as a delegate of Umeå University, Sweden, at the FK-KMK UGM Executive Room. The meeting served as an occasion for both parties to exchange appreciation while opening the way for further discussion on the direction of collaboration between the two institutions, including an initial exploration of potential educational partnership and student exchange, to be examined further during the presentation and discussion session. This visit marked a sign that the exploration of collaboration had received direct attention and support from the faculty’s leadership.
The meeting was further complemented by a session with the Medical Study Program of FK-KMK UGM at the Grha Wiyata Meeting Room, led by Prof. dr. Eggi Arguni, M.Sc., Ph.D., Sp.A(K), Head of the Medical Study Program at FK-KMK UGM. This forum addressed the FK-KMK UGM Professional Program along with presentations on elective programs from the persons in charge across seven clinical departments, namely Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Surgery, Dermatology and Venereology, Otorhinolaryngology, and Ophthalmology. These presentations offered a comprehensive overview of the elective opportunities that could serve as a platform for clinical experience exchange between students of both universities.
As the highlight of the discussion, the Umeå University delegate presented an overview of her institution, which was followed by a joint discussion session covering plans for an exchange program, its potential as a pathway for the International Undergraduate Program (IUP), and updates to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UGM and Umeå University. The series of visits concluded with a direct review of facilities at Dr. Sardjito Hospital and UGM Academic Hospital, as part of introducing the faculty’s clinical education service network.
This activity reflects FK-KMK UGM’s tangible commitment to strengthening global higher education networks in health sciences, in line with SDG 4 (Quality Education) through expanded access to cross-border learning, as well as SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), which underscores the importance of international collaboration in building a competitive and sustainable medical education system.
