FK-KMK UGM’s Student Presents a Case Study on Pachydermoperiostosis at Grand Rounds of the Asian Pediatric Dermatology

Student from the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK) at Gadjah Mada University participated in the Grand Rounds event held by the Asian Society of Pediatric Dermatology on Thursday (20/02). This student, Dr. Nadia Nur Asifa, a PPDS Dermatology, Venereology, and Aesthetics student, gave an online presentation on a clinical case titled “Two Cases of Pachydermoperiostosis from Indonesia.”

The presentation by Dr. Nadia comprehensively explained two case findings with a diagnosis of pachydermoperiostosis, starting from the patient’s complaints, family history, diagnosis process, to treatment.

This event was also attended by Prof. Dr. med. dr. Retno Danarti, Sp.D.V.E, Subsp.D.A, from the Department of Dermatology and Venereology, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health (FK-KMK). She joined the discussion with pediatric dermatology experts from Asia.

Prof. Retno highlighted in this case that although diagnosis is relatively straightforward based on specific clinical signs and symptoms, dermatological management is quite limited and requires collaboration with colleagues from other specialties, particularly plastic surgery.

One of the discussion moderators, Clinical Associate Prof. Mark Koh, also suggested conducting genetic mutation analysis on one of the patients along with family members who have similar complaints. Prof. Retno responded that the genetic investigation is still in progress. This clinical case discussion aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 4: Quality Education, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
