FK-KMK UGM. Center for Bioethics and Humanities (CBMH) Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing UGM together with the International Medical University (IMU) organized a Raboan with the topic Leadership in Academic Medicine on Wednesday (6/9) via zoom meeting. There were 2 speakers at Raboan this time, namely Prof. Dr. Chandramani Thuraisingham and Dr. Sasikala Devi A/P A. Amirthalingam from IMU.
The first topic related to Leadership as a Primary Care Physician was delivered by Prof. Chandra. As primary nurses, doctors are expected to have competence not only in knowledge but also in soft skills. The soft skills in question include self-awareness and showing patience in treating patients. “In order to have good leadership, doctors should take several supporting actions. For example, having high initiative, providing honest feedback, and having clear goals,” added Prof. Chandra.
The second topic was delivered by Sasikala with the title Learning Leadership during Community Engagement Activities. According to him, effective leadership is an important component in health care education. “Effective leadership ensures patients receive high-quality care and safety during the treatment process,” he added.
Leaders in health services should have 5 values, which is showing humility, having a vision, acting as a mentor, showing integrity, and being open to collaboration with various parties. (Nirwana/Reporter)
