FK-KMK UGM. The Department of Cardiology and Vascular Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FK-KMK UGM), held an International Guest Lecture with renowned cardiologist Prof. Salvatore Di Somma from Università “La Sapienza” in Rome, Italy. The event focused on the future of telemedicine and telemonitoring for heart failure patients and cardiac rehabilitation, particularly in remote regions.
This hybrid event was attended by 30 residents, two PhD candidates, and several researchers in related fields. Dr. Anggoro Budi Hartopo, Sp.PD, Sp.JP moderated the lecture, with participants joining both online via Zoom and in person at the Department of Cardiology and Vascular Medicine, FK-KMK UGM.
During his presentation, Prof. Di Somma emphasized the importance of innovative healthcare approaches, particularly telemedicine, in managing heart failure patients. He pointed out that cardiovascular cases are expected to rise post-COVID-19, and telemonitoring could be a key solution for providing timely, remote care.
“Telemedicine allows us to closely monitor patients, providing early interventions without requiring them to travel to healthcare facilities. This is especially beneficial in a geographically large country like Indonesia,” said Prof. Di Somma.
He further highlighted the importance of integrating technology into healthcare systems, not only for patient monitoring but also for cardiac rehabilitation. This approach ensures that patients, especially those in remote areas with limited access to healthcare services, receive proper follow-up care, reducing the need for hospital readmissions and improving overall health outcomes.
Dr. Anggoro added that international collaborations like this are essential and part of FK-KMK UGM’s commitment to strengthening global partnerships and sharing knowledge through platforms such as the International Joint Research Academy.
This event reflects FK-KMK UGM’s dedication to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
