Lectures Faculty of Medicine UGM Launch SEAN Journal Disaster Health Management at WADEM Congress 2025

FK-KMK UGM. Lecturers Faculty of Medicine UGM participated in the 23rd World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine (WADEM) Congress held in Tokyo, Japan on May 2-6, 2025. With the use theme “Governance in the Face of VUCA: the Power of Knowledge, Courage, and Solidarity in Health Systems”, this congress aims to provide various global perspectives in the discourse of disaster and emergency medicine. This congress was also attended by researchers and doctors from all over the world who have special expertise in the field of disaster and emergency medicine.

In attending the 23rd World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine (WADEM) Congress, Lecturers of FK-KMK UGM joined the ASEAN Institute for Disaster Health Management Team. This team is an ASEAN institution that focuses on disaster health management. In addition, the joining Lecturers of FK-KMK UGM is expected to be able to provide support for regional coordination in providing an ASEAN perspective on the running of the congress.

The congress was also attended by researchers and lecturers from the Center for Health Policy and Management (PKMK), Faculty of Medicine UGM. The presence of researchers and lecturers from PKMK FK-KMK UGM is expected to be able to provide academic thought contributions related to sharing research and lessons learned regarding their experiences in disaster management, pre-hospital care, and other health aspects that are complex emergencies and humanitarian crises.

At this congress, Prof. dr. Yodi Mahendradhata M.Sc., Ph.D., FRSPH as Dean of Faculty of Medicine UGM and representative of the ASEAN Institute for Disaster Health Management Team launched the ASEAN Journal Disaster Health Management. Prof. Yodi explain that the launch of this journal aims to provide convenience and a forum for sharing research results and scientific knowledge related to disaster health management.

Furthermore, Prof. Yodi also became a resource person in the panel discussion session and led a meeting between the ASEAN Institute for Disaster Health Management Team and the President of the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine. This series of activities is in line with Partnership of The Goals 4 (Quality Education), because there is a commitment from Faculty of Medicine UGM in providing a forum for disseminating updates on research results. In addition, this activity is also in line with Partnership of The Goals 17 (Partnerships to Achieve Goals) because there is a commitment to international cooperation for the development of health services in disaster management.
