FK-KMK UGM. Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing UGM held a Scientific Writing Seminar and Promote Article Publication in MSPTM Journal – Tropical Biomedicine on Monday (11/9) in the Auditorium on the 1st floor of the Tahir Postgraduate Building.

Prof. Dr. Siti Nursheena Mohd Zain from Universiti Malaya was there to present material on How to Publish Your Research Journal. According to her, there are several key skills in writing academic papers. “The research content already exists, what we need to do is translate it into a journal article,” explained Prof. Siti.

There is a mindset that must be developed in writing journal articles, including the purpose of the journal article, target audience, readers, planning, gathering the information we need, and proofreading. “Proofreading should be done by someone else so that we can get feedback from the reader’s perspective,” added Prof. Siti.

In the drafting process, Prof. Siti recommends writing at least 5 drafts. This aims to ensure that there are more forms and structures of writing that can be assessed for their respective advantages and disadvantages.

After the writing is finished, the next task is to determine which journal we will submit the article to. Several things that need to be considered are the purpose of writing the article, the target audience, whether the journal is published by a major publisher or association, whether there is an online version, and so on.
