FK-KMK UGM Student Wins 3rd Place in Scientific Poster at The 5th Siloam Oncology Summit 2025

Ali Zainal Abidin, a student of Molecular Medicine Interest class 2023 from the Biomedical Sciences Master’s Program, has made a national achievement by winning third place in the scientific poster competition at the 5th Siloam Oncology Summit 2025. The prestigious event was organized by MRCCC Siloam Hospitals from 16-18 May 2025 at the Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta.

In a scientific forum attended by more than 700 participants from home and abroad, Ali presented a poster entitled “Plasma Circulating miRNA Expression Profile as A Diagnostic Biomarker Candidate for HR+/HER2- Breast Cancer.” His research explores the potential of microRNA (miRNA) expression in plasma as a diagnostic biomarker for HR+/HER2- subtype breast cancer, which is one of the high-prevalence cancer subtypes. This approach is non-invasive and is part of a global trend in the development of more accurate and convenient cancer diagnostics for patients.

This year’s Siloam Oncology Summit carries the theme “United by Unique” and features 11 international speakers and 89 national speakers. In addition to symposiums and workshops, the event also served as a competition for young researchers to showcase research innovations in the field of oncology. Ali’s success is not only a matter of personal and institutional pride, but also reflects the spirit of UGM FK-KMK students in developing evidence-based science that is relevant to global health needs.

This achievement also supports the achievement of partnership of the goals, especially goals 3: Healthy and Prosperous Life through innovation in early cancer detection, goals 4: Quality Education through strengthening student research competencies, and goals 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through contributions in the development of medical technology.
