Department of Cardiology and Vascular Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK), Gadjah Mada University, in collaboration with the Yogyakarta Branch of Perki, hold a symposium and workshop themed “Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Longevity: Connecting the Dots.” This event was held over two days, February 22-23, 2025, with the symposium on the first day at The Rich Jogja Hotel and the workshop on the second day at the Integrated Heart Center of Dr. Sardjito General Hospital. This event was part of a series of activities from the 2025 Jogja Cardiovascular Epidemiology and Prevention Forum, which has been held twice since 2024.
In his speech, Dr. Real Kusumanjaya Marsam, Chair of the Yogyakarta Branch of Perki, M.Kes, Sp.JP (K), stated that cardiovascular disease remains a significant concern. Additionally, challenges related to cardiovascular diseases remain dominant. “Therefore, symposiums, seminars, and workshops are still necessary to address the current challenges in cardiovascular diseases,” said Dr. Real.
In line with this, Dr. Real, Deputy Dean for Cooperation, Alumni, and Community Service at FK-KMK UGM, Dr. dr. Sudadi Sp.An., KNA., KAR., said that the symposium was held in accordance with government policy, which is to promote early detection of cardiovascular disease. Based on Dr. Sudadi, education about cardiovascular diseases will be less effective if it only covers curative aspects, but it must also be accompanied by preventive measures with early detection.
“Of course, FK-KMK strongly supports the efforts of the Department of Cardiology and Vascular Medicine. I see a significant number of research projects and grants focused on early detection, and I hope these will benefit our nation in preparing for Indonesia’s golden age,” concluded Dr. Sudadi.
On the first day of the symposium, it opened with a Plenary Lecture on “Healthy Aging and Longevity: How CVD Prevention Prevails” by Prof. Salvatore Di Somma, MD, Ph.D (Professor of Internal Medicine, Cardiologist and Internal Medicine Specialist at the Faculty of Medicine and Psychology, “La Sapienza” University of Rome, Italy).
