FK-KMK UGM. The Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) hosted a delegation from the University of Amsterdam on Friday (08/09). The meeting, held in the Dean’s Meeting Room of the Tahir Foundation Postgraduate Building, was attended by University of Amsterdam representative Prof. Bastiaan Krom, Ph.D.
The discussion, which included members of the FK-KMK UGM dean’s office and representatives from the Department of Microbiology, focused on opportunities to strengthen collaboration between the two institutions, particularly in the field of oral microbiology research.
During the meeting, Prof. Bastiaan shared insights and experiences related to his research on biofilm and oral microbiology. He elaborated on the dynamic and intriguing nature of biofilm, a community of microorganisms living within a single ecosystem. Prof. Bastiaan emphasized the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to understanding biofilm dynamics, involving fields such as physics, bioinformatics, dentistry, and molecular biology.
Prof. Bastiaan also expressed optimism about expanding research collaboration between UGM and the University of Amsterdam. He highlighted the potential for securing research funding from various European organizations to support student and researcher exchanges between the two institutions.
The FK-KMK UGM team warmly welcomed this initiative, expressing hope for a closer partnership in the near future. The meeting also explored possibilities for short-term student and researcher exchanges, aiming to strengthen academic and research ties.
This meeting marks a strategic first step in advancing oral microbiology research at FK-KMK UGM, leveraging the expertise and experience of the University of Amsterdam. The collaboration aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 on health, SDG 4 on education, and SDG 17 on partnerships for the goals.
Through this partnership, both institutions aim to complement each other and produce innovative research that contributes to the advancement of science, particularly in oral microbiology. (Reporter: Fauziah Nurhasanah/Editor: Isroq Adi Subakti)
