CIMSA UGM Hosts NPEW and TSRHRT 2025

Center for Indonesian Medical Students’ Activities (CIMSA) Gadjah Mada University hosted the National Peer Education Workshop (NPEW) and Training Sexual & Reproductive Health and Rights Trainers (TSRHRT), which lasted for four days, from April 10 to 13, 2025 at FK-KMK UGM.

This event is a national-scale training and capacity-building program initiated by the Standing Committee on Sexual & Reproductive Health and Rights, Including HIV and AIDS (SCORA) CIMSA Indonesia, with the primary objective of developing competent young educators in the field of sexual and reproductive health. Through this event, participants are trained to become Peer Educator Trainers (PETRA) and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Trainers (SRHRT).

These two roles are very important in expanding the reach of reproductive health education in a more appropriate, inclusive, and sensitive manner to the existing socio-cultural context. Not only as technical training, but this activity also becomes a space for sharing experiences, building networks, and strengthening the capacity of medical students to become agents of change in health issues that are still often considered taboo in society.

Over the course of four days, participants took part in a series of interactive sessions, workshops, case studies, and teaching simulations facilitated by trainers experienced in SRHR (Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights). In an inclusive and supportive atmosphere, participants were encouraged to develop communication skills, empathy, and evidence-based approaches in delivering material to their peers and the wider community.

CIMSA UGM’s involvement as host also reflects this student organization’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly point 3: Good Health and Well-being, by promoting the right to and access to accurate and safe sexual health information, point 4: Quality Education, through a peer-to-peer education approach that has proven effective in disseminating knowledge among adolescents and students, and point 5: Gender Equality, as SRHR education contributes directly to reducing stigma, discrimination, and gender-based violence. In addition, this activity is also part of a collaboration, which is in line with point 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

By organizing NPEW and TSRHRT 2025, CIMSA UGM not only strengthens the role of students in the field of public health but also contributes to building a young generation that is aware of their rights, critical of health issues, and able to drive positive change in their respective communities. This training is an important part of the continuity of learning and advocacy based on science and human values. (Contributor: Anya, Translated by: Tedy A)
