Alumni Share and KAMP: A Starting Point for Building Futures in Healthcare

FK-KMK UGM. The Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) recently held its Alumni Share program alongside the Closing Kagamadok Alumni Mentorship Program (KAMP). The event took place on Sunday, October 27, at the Bambang Soetarso Auditorium, FK-KMK UGM, under the theme “Exploring Healthcare Careers: A Guide to Opportunities and Challenges”.

dr. Ahmad Watsiq Maula, MPH, the coordinator of Alumni Share and KAMP, emphasized that the program serves as a bridge for alumni to share their experiences and knowledge with current students and recent graduates as they prepare for their future careers. “KAMP facilitates mentorship for students and new alumni, allowing them to connect with mentors in their chosen fields. This platform aims to create opportunities for discussion and learning,” said dr. Ahmad Watsiq.

Meanwhile, dr. Mochammad Syafak Hanung, Sp.A., MPH, Vice Chairman of KAGAMA FK-KMK UGM, highlighted the increasing equality of opportunities in healthcare. He noted that healthcare professionals now have greater chances of attaining strategic positions, such as hospital directors. “The mentorship program, KAMP, is designed to help participants develop the skills needed to achieve these goals,” he added.

dr. Sudadi Sp.An., KNA., KAR, Vice Dean for Collaboration, Alumni Affairs, and Community Service at FK-KMK UGM, reiterated the faculty’s commitment to preparing students for the professional world through mentorship. “Alumni Share, as part of the Pekan Raya Medika series, provides a platform for students to explore future careers with alumni,” explained dr. Sudadi.

One of the program’s highlights was a talk by Prof. dr. Adi Utarini, M.Sc., MPH, Ph.D., Head of the Doctoral Program at FK-KMK UGM, moderated by dr. Asa Ibrahim Zainal A., Sp.OT. Prof. Utarini, who began her career at the age of 17, shared her insights on the importance of setting career goals early and finding suitable mentors to guide career development. “You must decide your career path early on, identify your motivation, prepare for the consequences, and set clear targets,” she advised.

Prof. Utarini also underscored the role of organizational involvement in enhancing communication skills. She highlighted the value of preparing strategies to navigate challenging times and suggested hobbies as a way to manage stress.

The event concluded with Focus Group Discussions tailored for each study program: Medicine, Nutrition, and Nursing.

Alumni Share and Closing KAMP are part of the Pekan Raya Medika (PRM) 2024, held from October 27–28. This annual FK-KMK event is a collaborative initiative involving the Academic and Student Affairs division, Alumni Collaboration and Community Service, and Research and Development. It aims to foster innovation and collaboration in addressing healthcare challenges.

This initiative aligns with FK-KMK’s efforts to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
