Acreditation Assesment of ASIIN for Department of Health and Nutrition, FK-KMK UGM

FK-KMK UGM. The Nutrition and Health Program of the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK) at UGM received a visit from the ASIIN Team (Akkreditierungsagentur für Studiengänge der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik) on April 23, 2024. The visit involved field assessments and a tour of the educational facilities of the Nutrition and Health Program at FK-KMK UGM. The assessors and representatives engaged in discussions regarding educational objectives, curriculum, programs, teaching methods, as well as the introduction of media and facilities utilized in the teaching and learning process.

The learning process undertaken by the Nutrition and Health Program at FK-KMK UGM aligns with international accreditation standards set by ASIIN, such as the use of outcome-based education, the delivery of integrated interdisciplinary materials, the utilization of simulation methods with feedback in clinical skill learning, and periodic curriculum evaluations.

Prof. dr. Yodi Mahendradhata, M.Sc, Ph.D, FRSPH, the Dean of FK-KMK, provided explanations regarding the progressiveness and comprehensiveness of the Nutrition and Health Program at FK-KMK. “In addition to the Nutrition and Health Program, we also offer programs in dietitian professional education and inclusive postgraduate education. Furthermore, we enrich students’ abilities and insights through interprofessional education, which trains and educates students to collaborate with other professions and disciplines in the same field to create strategic collaborations in the healthcare system to address health issues in society, both clinically and in population settings,” he explained during the Q&A session at the auditorium of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UGM.

ASIIN assessments were conducted on several UGM programs, including the Nutrition and Health Program, Bachelor’s Program in Electronics and Instrumentation, Master’s Program in Computer Science, Master’s Program in Forestry, Master’s Program in Agricultural Science and Technology, and Doctoral Program in Forestry. ASIIN is an international accreditation body based in Germany focusing on engineering, mathematics and sciences, agriculture, biology, and medicine disciplines. The visit took place over 2 days on April 22-23, 2024.

The first agenda included the opening ceremony and a meeting of the assessors with representatives from the UGM Rectorate. During this agenda, the assessors engaged in discussions regarding further university development, the program’s position within the university context, program profiles, and other university-level aspects held at the auditorium of FMIPA UGM, followed by a tour of the programs. The ASIIN representative assessors included Prof. Dr. Carsten Mann (Eberswalde University of Sustainable Development for Forest and Environment), Prof. Dr. Markus Frank (Nuertingen-Geislingen University for Plant Health Management), Prof. Dr. Dian Handayani (Brawijaya University), Almansyah Sinatrya, S.P., M.Sc (Universal Leaf Tobacco for Agronomy), and Dina Riska (Student Representative, Mulawarman University).

Accreditation of nutrition programs not only supports the improvement of education quality in the field of nutrition but also promotes innovation and the development of adequate infrastructure in the food and nutrition industry, in line with the SDGs advocating for quality education and sustainable infrastructure development, particularly point 4 regarding quality education and point 9 regarding industry, innovation, and infrastructure.
