Empowering Marginalized Communities in West Bandung through Photovoice: A Step

Summary:
A recent study by Kamila et al. (2024) highlights the use of photovoice as a powerful tool to
combat HIV-related social exclusion in key populations in West Bandung, Indonesia. By
documenting the lived experiences of marginalized groups, this study aligns with the
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and 10 (Reduced
Inequalities). The research underlines the importance of community participation and the
potential of visual storytelling to promote social inclusion, reduce stigma, and influence public
health policies for better outcomes in HIV prevention and care.

Context for SDGs:
This study directly contributes to SDG 3 by addressing health-related challenges faced by
vulnerable populations and SDG 10 by advocating for reduced inequalities through
community-based interventions. The findings suggest that engaging marginalized groups in
public health initiatives can lead to more inclusive societies and improve access to healthcare
services, thereby fostering sustainable development.
