40 Years of Synergy: FK-KMK UGM and Kobe University Strengthen Global Collaboration

FK-KMK UGM. The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FK-KMK UGM), Prof. Dr. Yodi Mahendradhata, M.Sc., Ph.D., FRSPH, welcomed a visit from Prof. Noriaki Emoto, MD, PhD, from the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at Kobe University, Japan, on Monday (21/10) at the Dean’s Office, Tahir Foundation Building.

This meeting marks part of the ongoing academic and research collaboration between FK-KMK UGM and Kobe University, which has been in place since the 1980s.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Yodi expressed his appreciation for the close relationship between the two institutions, noting that Kobe University has been FK-KMK UGM’s longest-standing international academic partner.

“I am delighted to welcome Prof. Noriaki back to our campus. Our collaboration with Kobe University has lasted for over 40 years, making it one of our longest-running partnerships,” Prof. Yodi said.

Prof. Noriaki, on the other hand, emphasized the importance of knowledge exchange between the two institutions, particularly in addressing global health challenges.

“I hope this collaboration will continue and further expand, especially in medical research that is highly relevant to today’s global health challenges,” Prof. Noriaki stated.

Interestingly, Prof. Noriaki mentioned that he is currently supervising eight Indonesian students at Kobe University, three of whom are from FK-KMK UGM.

Additionally, the meeting provided an opportunity to discuss new possibilities for developing specialized academic programs, including observerships and clinical training for students and medical professionals, particularly in the field of cardiology.

“We hope this visit will bring significant benefits to both of us and foster more innovation in the medical field,” Prof. Yodi concluded.

This visit marked Prof. Noriaki’s seventh visit to FK-KMK UGM, representing Kobe University in collaborative communications. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to expanding exchange programs and broader collaborations to create a positive impact on academic and global health.

This meeting also reflects FK-KMK UGM’s dedication to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3), Quality Education (SDG 4), Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9), Reduced Inequality (SDG 10), Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).
