FK-KMK UGM. Serving the community is an integral component of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. Dr. Supriyati, S.Sos., M.Kes. from the Department of Health Behavior, Environment, and Social Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FK-KMK UGM), echoed this sentiment at the Workshop on Sustainable Community Service on Monday (4/29) at the Meeting Room, Tahir Foundation Building.
“Community service used to be synonymous with unpaid activities within our academic community (FK-KMK),” said Supriyati.
Supriyati explained that since 2008, FK-KMK has been working to enhance the transformation of community service programs to be as prominent as research.
“Community service is very comprehensive, no different from research. In fact, community service utilizes tested technologies and tools, whereas research is about discovering new things,” she concluded.
Essentially, the workshop served as a capacity development platform for the recipients of the Damas Abdimas FK-KMK Grant for 2024, preparing them to implement community service programs. In addition, grant recipients will undergo a series of capacity development activities, including sustainable community service, policy brief development, preparation of scientific and popular reports, and the creation of educational videos.
Supriyati added that this program is a collective endeavor, aiming to encourage community synergy towards self-reliance.
The Damas Abdimas FK-KMK team appreciates the emergence of new faces in the grant program.
“Serving the community should be the responsibility and obligation of all members of the academic community at FK-KMK UGM,” emphasized Supriyati. She also stated that FK-KMK is the initiator of capacity-building programs in community service at UGM. This program is crucial because the readiness of implementers is a key factor in social engineering activities within communities.
Furthermore, this program reflects FK-KMK UGM’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Additionally, FK-KMK plays a major role in the Health Promoting University initiative to achieve SDG 3, which is Good Health and Well-being, through various community service programs.
