Orenji Team UGM Wins First Place at Nutrition Fair 2024 Debate Competition

FK-KMK UGM.  Students of the Nutrition Science Program from the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) have once again made a remarkable achievement on the national stage. The Orenji Team UGM clinched the first prize at the nutrition debate competition organized by the Nutrition Student Association (HIMAGIZI) of IPB University during the 2024 Nutrition Fair. The competition, held on September 21, 2024, attracted teams from various top universities across Indonesia.

As part of the Multifaceted Advocacy, Negotiating Goals, Analyzing Motives, Grappling Objectives (MANGO) event, the Orenji Team UGM—comprising Divara Hana Vania, Komang Laksmi Windary Putri, and Yuan Angelica Pramudita Sujatmiko—delivered an outstanding performance. These three students showcased exceptional abilities in formulating practical solutions to nutritional issues and presenting logical, data-driven arguments.

The competition began with a preliminary round where participating teams competed to secure the highest victory points. The Orenji Team emerged as the leader in this round and advanced to the semifinals, where they faced a team from Poltekkes Palangka Raya. Demonstrating their dominance once again, the Orenji Team secured their spot in the final round, held in person at the IPB University campus in Bogor, West Java.

In the final round, the Orenji Team went head-to-head against a team from Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) on the debate motion “Free Lunch.” As the opposition, they successfully countered the government’s arguments with a well-structured approach and relevant data. The judging criteria included the strength of arguments, accuracy of data, adherence to debate structure, and rebuttal skills.

This victory is a testament to the excellence of UGM’s Nutrition Science students in national-level competitions. Beyond academic prowess, they have also demonstrated their ability to critically express opinions in competitive debate forums. It is hoped that this achievement will inspire other students to excel and contribute to addressing nutritional issues in Indonesia.

The Nutrition Fair 2024 is an annual event aimed at raising awareness and providing solutions to nutritional problems in Indonesia. It serves as a platform for students to hone their academic skills while competing on a national scale. With this achievement, the Orenji Team UGM has proven that hard work and a well-thought-out strategy lead to remarkable results.

This accomplishment also reflects FK-KMK’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3), Quality Education (SDG 4), Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).
