FM-UGM. Master in Basic Medical Science and Biomedical Faculty of Medicine Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) collaborated successfully with Indonesian Medical Literacy (ImeL) held Writing Seminar and Workshop in medical literacy, “Grow Up the Medical Literacy Movement in Indonesia from scientific research to be popular scientific research” on 19 till 20 May 2017. Prof. Dr. Mustofa, Apt., M.Kes admitted that the background of this event to increase the student passion in writing scientific research and popular article. Moreover, the publication is important to give a benefit to the public. Besides, it also important to improve the institution and facilitate information traffic which is diverse, dynamic, fast and actual.
Redactor of Efkagama Media in Faculty of Medicine UGM, dr. J.B. Soebroto, Sp.PA(K) explained that medical science publication is no longer limited to scientific research publications but growing in popular scientific research publications, non-fiction narration, features, hard news, breaking news, newspapers, magazines or tabloids, and electronic media through blogs, portals, and audiovisuals.
The critical point from developing a publication to the public is more selective in filtering and criticizing the hoax publication in the health field. dr. Broto said writing is an effort in the high-thinking documentation that involves the process of understanding, analyzing, applying, evaluating, reading, listening, learning, and discussion, so that the resulting writing will be more qualified and meaningful.
Redaction team from The Jakarta Post, Yogyakarta Regional Sri Wahyuni added that in journalism, the writer should concern about the feasibility of news such as the actuality, objectivity, significance of the topic, human of interest, availability of conflict and the emotionality in news because of the journalism publication have different characteristics from each other.
The presentation about writing popular article technic from the ImeL member, Muhammad Husnil as an author or editor, and Ahmad Yunus as instructor writing or volunteer DoctorShare in the second days of the workshop were able to grow up the interest and passion in writing popular scientific research.
It proved in the end of the workshop, all the participant read the popular article about culinary, information technology, music, holiday experiences, medical journalism, or health issues such as high cases of abortion and policies facing polypharmacy.
As a follow up from this seminar and workshop, Faculty of Medicine through Magister of Master in Basic Medical Science and Biomedical with media Efkagama aimed to make ecosystem cooperation with Indonesian Medical Literacy (IMeL) to develop medical literacy in the future, such as the quality, quantity, and national or international publication.
