UGM Being the First University in Indonesia Running a Master Program in Bioethics

FK-KMK UGM. Universitas Gadjah Mada becomes the first university in Indonesia to establish a postgraduate program in Bioethics. The Center for Bioethics and Health Humanities of FK-KMK UGM offers the education of bioethics at UGM, not only on the health sector, but on the other disciplines as well. Currently, formulating a master program in bioethics becomes an important work, as presented by Rector Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M. Eng., D.Eng. while opening the Ethics Teachers’ Training Course (ETTC) at the Auditorium of UGM Postgraduate School.

UGM through Center for Bioethics and Health Humanities of FK-KMK UGM hosted a course organized in collaboration with UNESCO in UNESCO’s bioethics professional capacity-building program. The course was aimed to support and advance the capacity of bioethics teachers in improving the quality of Bioethics education worldwide relevant to current global problems.

The event was supported by university and UGM Postgraduate School, while organized by the Center for Bioethics and Health Humanities of FK-KMK. “Through this event, we hope to be able to learn while also exchanging ideas and experiences to enhance professional capacity, particularly in teaching bioethics,” said Chairman of The Center for Bioethics and Health Humanities, Prof. dr. Yati Soenarto, Sp.AK., Ph.D. She also mentioned that both participants and observers came from various background and countries, such as India, Mongolia, and Samoa.
