Stunting Is Still a Serious Problem

FK-KMK UGM. Malnutrition in toddlers, children, and pregnant women will increase risk of stunting events. This problem will be closely related to neurocognitive development, markers for non-communicable diseases risk, and decreased productivity.

If they not get a good treatment and attention, stunted children will have a negative impact on all aspects of human resource development and economic growth. In the first 1000 days of life, nutrition, the environment, and psychosocial play an important role, which can impact on the growth and development of human capital. This was explained in The 6th UGM International Public Health Symposium with theme: “Multi-sectoral and Multidisciplinary Approach to Prevent and Manage Stunting in Indonesia”.

This symposium was held November 5-7, 2019 ago in the Auditorium building of the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK) UGM.

The causes of stunting are rooted in various sectors, calling for cross-sectoral and multidisciplinary collaboration to solve problems adequately. Therefore, the involvement of various stakeholders in reducing stunting recognizes the need for horizontal and vertical coherence work.

In general, this activity aims to support the improvement of programs and policy management in the stunting prevention in Indonesia. (Contributors & Photos / Organizing Team. Translator: Vania/IRO)
